Where? JARABACOA
in the Dominican Republic.
Jarabacoa is a
highly interesting location, with low prices, unlike the main tourist
destinations. Surrounded by luxurious mountains and multiple
rivers, Jarabacoa is a popular destination for white-water rafting,
canyoning, horseback riding, ATV trails, eco-tourism, in addition to being
a top paragliding site.
Jarabacoa can easily be reached from either Puerto Plata or Santo Domingo
(Las Americas).
My name is Simon Vacher, paragliding instructor in the Dominican Republic
and owner of FLY VACHER, the first paragliding school in
the country.
During the last six years I have trained approximately sixty
pilots.
Upon completion of your paragliding course, you can obtain your official
rating from the
Dominican Free Flying Association (VLD in Spanish).
However, in addition to learning how to fly, I will teach you to assess
the flying conditions, when to launch or wait for better conditions, so
that you will be a safe pilot once you return home.
The complete beginner course comprises:
4 hrs of ground handling
5 hrs of theory (back to school !!)
5 beginner flights, with low height to safely learn what flying feels like.
15 long flights from four different sites, with progressive exercises such
as tip folds, dynamic flying and intro to thermal flying.
During your course, you will gradually master all the skills required to
safely fly on your own. I will provide the paraglider, harness, helmet and
radio; all you need is good hiking boots for ankle protection, sturdy
gloves, jeans and long sleeve shirt or sweater.
The course costs $100 USD to 180 USD per day, depending on how many people are learning together. Course duration is 7 to 10 days, or three weekends. We offer discounts if you have your own 4X4 vehicle.
I also offer advanced flying training (thermalling, cross-country, etc),
under the same conditions as the beginner course (15% discount if you have
your own gear).
